Sir John Simon (British Foreign Minister) in the ■disarmament debate referring to the French plan, said that whatever might be said -about some of its struetural details the plan was inspired by a genuine disire to eome to a friendly arrangement with German. Moreover, the proposal for m national pact of non-aggression in Europe exeited the warmest sympathy of the British Government. Regarding the Freneh proposal to meet the German claim to equality by a common basis for all countries, he said, it meant that the Treaty of Versailles was not sacrosanct.
