Wairoa, Wednesday. At a meeting of the local unemployment committee this afternoon, the members were informed that Maoris registered as unemployed are to be refused work after the current week. The statement caused condemnatory remarks from the members present, and resulted in the following resolution, proposed by the chairman, Arehdeaeon Butterfield, and seeonded by the R.S.A. representative, Major Scott, being carried unanimously: • Having learned tha,t the IJnemployment Board intends to cut Maoris off the list of registered unemployed, we consider there is no justification in remaining members of the local unerpployment committee, particularly in view of the previous notifications received fropi the U nemployment Board, that Maoris were to bb treated on the same basis as Europeans. The menjbers of the committee present then tendered their resignations ip a body, immediately leaving the meetiiig ropih. ' 1
