Official investigations had disclosed recently that while the State was sp;ending £5,000,000 per annum on relief between 20 and 25 .per cent. was going to imposters. .. Tjhe cost of . social services in this State equals £3 10s p»er head of the population and in no other State did it exceed £2. The Government, in endeavhuring to balance tbe budget, had to choose between keeping tHe beneiits at a lowr standard and reaching a point at which payments, c.ould, n'qt be ,met.
