Spraying Ragwort. The Opotiki County Council has two men employed spraying ragwort up the Otara River bed. The council is to bring up the matter at the next meeting of the Lands Board, asking for the continuation of the work to headwaters of the river. No Parking! "There was a car dumped in that creek," remarked Cr. A. Martin when the bloclcing of a creek was brought up at the Opotiki County Council meeting. "Oh", well, perhaps it's a new parking araa," remarked another councillor to the amusement of all except Cr. Headley, who protested that it was close to his house, and quite. all right. A Healthy District. "The district remains very clean and there are no infectious diseases," reported the district health officer to the Opotiki County Council at its last meeting. "Well, if it's so healthy, he wont' have much to do and we might he able to put him on spraying ragwort," was the cheerful suggestion of a councillor. Estaiblishment of Lupins. In response to an inquiry from Mr. L. B Martyn, of Waihi, the Opotiki County Council has replied that in its opinion the planting of yellow lupin on the East Coast Road has proved distinctly valuable. Kutarere School Drain. Stating that the drain in front of the Kutarere school was blocked and causing a bog, the school committee asked the Opotiki County Council to have it cleaned out. Cr. Wilson said that th'e drain should he inside the fence as it was no use to the road and this was adopted as the view of the council, which, however, as an act of grace, decided to put unemployed on to remove the obstruction when they were available.
