SEASON CLOSES PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON LIFE MEMBERSHIP HONOURS The Rotorua Golf Club elosed its season on Saturday afternoon, when the trophies won during the year were presented by the wife of the president, Mrs. S. H. Hay. The official competitions closed with a mixed foursomes played during the afternoon. A strong wind made playing conditions a trifie unpleasant, but many members took part, the winners of the competition being Mr. and Mrs. Redhead. Addressing members, the president referred to the successful season which had just concluded, and commented upon the high standard of golf seen, during the year. During the season, a Wednesday competition had been inaugurated by the club and he congratulated the players in this competition upon their defeat of the Saturday players. Referring to the decision of the 1 club to present life membership certifieates to Messrs. C. H. C. Worthington, W. W. P. Hall and F. W. Wilkie, Dr. Hay said that it was well known that these members had given invaluable serviee to the club, each having to a great measure been responsible for its excellent progress and sound position at the present time. In thanking the club for the honour which had been conferred upon him, Mr. Worthington said that few realised the diffieulties which had been encountered in bringing the course to the state of perfection which existed to-day. . This had only^been brought about by hard spadeworlc on the part of its early members, who had been faced with the task of clearing the course of scrub and laying-out the fairways and greens. In this work, a deep debt of gratitude was also due to many other energetic and enthusiastic early members. Mr. Wilkie said that during his many years of association with* the club he had derived much pleasure from his efforts and although still keenly interested in its welfare, he was prepared to stand back and allow the administration to rest in younger hands. The certificate with which he had been presented would be one of his most treasured possessions and he deeply appreciated the

honour paid to him. . Mr. Hall said that for 18 years .he had been associated with the administration of the club and despite the diffieulties which had marked its early history, it had progressed in a remarkable manner until to-day it could be counted one of the finest in the Dominion and one which not only held the interest of its own members, but also .of outside golfers. Any serviee which he had been able to give had always been willingly performed and the action of the club in malcing him a life member was, for this reason, all the more appreciated.
