GENERAL BUSINESS WHICH ; CLAIMED CRS.' j ATTENTION. | GOAST ROAD LDADS. : [ There was a considerable amount of geherab business transacted at Thursday's meeting of thq Opotiki County Council, at which there was an attendancp of ten; fiess^s. J. H. Reid (ehairman), Powell, Black, Butler (senior and junior), Gault, Joblin, Wilsoq, Neilson and A. Martin. Among the general matters dialfc with' were the following: — Fencing a Driain. Mr. Butterworth, of Opotiki, asked the council to fence in .a drain which was causing hina trouble. j Cr. A. Martin said that he had in- j spectad the site and agreed that the writer had a grievance. He thought that the writer's idea of fencing was sound. The ehairman remarked that there : was a bad bog-laole there which was a menace to cattle. Cr. Joblin agreed. After further discussion the council agreed to do the fencing, providing Mr. Butterworth supplied the posts and wire, leavlng the matter ixi th'e hands of the engineer. Cr. Powell asked that the Motu ; roadman be proyided with a .two- j roomed cottage before winter set in. ! The matter was left to the engineer j to bring down. a report. i Ovierloading. Cr. Powell said that the epuncil ( should "have soine superyision over ; the loads carried on the Coast Road. | He believed that up to seven tons 1 were being carried. The engineer explained that a por- ; tipn of the road was classified as a 4J-ton road. On the suggestion pf the clerk, it was decided to institute a eheck and to use loadometers, offenders to be prosecuted.
