Rughy, Nov. 4. An agreement has been reached between the British Government and the great South Ameriean meat exporting firms, under which the latter hndertake voluntarily to reduce exports of meat to Britain on the' lines suggested at Ottawa hy the Ottawa agreements. •

The gritish Government has agree4 to adopt a policy with the object o| raising the prices of meat tt> a remunerative level, and prbgressively increasing the Dominions' share o'f the United Kingdom market. It haS undertaken tb take effective steps to seCure th'ese results, and the 'maximtim quantities of foreign meat to he aU lowed to be imported into the United Kingdom were -ac^ordiingly dejcidedf upon. During the coming year, and iii the light of the experience gained, the British Government will con'sidet the best means of ensuring an itnproved price situation and the more orderly marketing of supplies. Fot this purpose a world meat conference will he held next year. It is to secure the restriction to the Ottawa levels of the amount of meat imported, pending the formulation of a more permanent plan after consultation with the interests concerned, that the agreement with the South Ameriean exporters has been reached;
