JblNE DISPLAY AT ANNUAL A. AND P. ASSN. ° SHOW The eleventh annual Spring Flower Show condueted by the Opotiki A. and P. Association was held yesterday, and set an exeeptionally high standard in the various classes. The judges unanimously expressed satisfaetion with the exhibition and commended exhibitors for the evident care and thought displayed. Cut Blooms Class " Irises : Mrs. H. Appleton, 1 ; Mrs. Beattie, 2; larkspur, Mrs Forbes; pansies, Mrs. M. McMillan; sweetwilliam, Miss E, Bridge; stock (double), Mrs.
Kibblewhite, 1; Mrs. Appleton, 2; antirrhinums, Miss E. Bridge; aquilegia, Mrs. . McMillan, poppies, Mrs. S. Shalfoon, 1; Mrs. Kibblewhite, 2; best collection of cut flowers, Mrs. S. McMillan; carnation (best specimen bloom), Miss E. Bridge; carnation (best collection), Miss E. Bridge; lillies, Mrs. C. T. Clark; violas, Miss E. Murray. Decorative Section. ^ •Most effective bowl of cut flowers, any variety and foliage, Miss E. Bridge, 1; Mrs. L. Fox, 2; bowl of floating flowers, Mrs. Hathaway, I; Mrs. Pearson, 2; bowl of blue and gold flowers, Miss E. Murray. The first prize for the dining table decoration was awarded to Mrs. W. J. Scott whose. decorative scheme was carried out in very delicate shades of iceland poppies, Mrs. Shalfoon took second award with her vases of beautiful irises. Mrs. H. Appleton came first for the three best spilces of sweet peas. "The rose class," stated the judge of this particular section ,"was far better than last year." Results were: — Best specimen bloom, Miss N. Neilson, 1; Miss K. Jephson, 2; best specimen bloom (single), Mrs. McGregor, 1; Mrs Manning, 2; best three blooms, Miss N. Neilson, 1; Miss K. Jephson, 2; best spray of rambler, Mrs. Forbes, 1; Mrs. Manning, 2; bowl of 12 roses, Mrs. Shalfoon, 1; Mrs. McGregor, 2; rosebuds, Mrs S. Shalfoon, *1; Mrs. McGregor, 2. Miss G. Carruthers had some very fine pot plants on exhibition and she was awarded first prize for the best specimen fern; best adiantum (maiden hair), and best palm. Children's Section Under 17 years: Basket of cultivated flowers, Miss G. Burrett; posy, Miss G. Burrett; vase of flowers, Miss E. Semple; children under pL3 — Posy, Miss S. Scott; bowl of red and white flowers, Master D. McMillan; best buttonhole (man's), Master George Pearson; vase of flowers, Miss Allison Jessop. Children under 9. — Basket of cultivated flowers, Master Davipi McMillan; best buttonhole (man's) Master Neil McMillan 1, Miss Elsa Abbott 2. Fruit a a Vegetables Best three carrpts: Mr. T. H. Pearson; head of lettuce, Mrs. Newth; six broad beans, Mrs. Manning; six new potatoes, Mr. R. Peterson; six rhubarb stalks, Mrs. Newth; six lemons, Mrs. Newth; gooseberries, Mrs. Manning. Cake and sweet stalls, with a fish pond for the young people, were well supported.
