NUMBER TWO TROOP CELEBRATES ITS BIRTHDAY FLAG PRESENTED The anniversary of the Rotorua No. 2 Scout Troop's nativity was celebiated with traditional ceremonies last Friday evening, when a full muster of patrols, parents and friends assembled in the school hall to do 1 justice to so memorable an occasion. After a severe and critical inspection, efnciently carried out by the captain Oi. the First Rotorua Company of Girl Guides, the Cuckoo Patrol interested friends by their exhibition of sending and receiving of semaphore. Scouts M. and P. Hodge were again well received. Other items included a violin solo rendered by Mrs. Fleming, humorous recitations, Mr. F. Newmarch; Maori ditties by Mrs. S. Pallister and Mr. C. Hodge, and demonstrations of scout w-ork by the Owl, Kotare, Kiwi and Lion Patrols. The great moment of the evening came when the S.M. cut the birthday cake to the strains of Auld Lang Syne. , References to the past year's activities and the growth of the troop were made by the patrol leaders, who spoke on behalf of their patrols. Lack of words were certainly not all the cause for the brevity of the boys' speeches, but rather a desire to hurry away and sample the good things which the ladies and gentlemen of the committee so kindly supplied. Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. H. Farren, the troop now owns an Union Jack and during the evening an opportunity was found by the president and chaplain to present it officially to the troop.
