COTTON FOR GOWNS
AN OLYMPIC GAMES STYLE. . WEAR IN THE EVENINGS. The Olympic Games are responsible for one of the most startling: modes of the decade, that of the cotton evening gown, according to Travis Banton, an American stylist. "The .casual vogue for washable fabrics that cornered the market of daytime clothes early in the Olympic Games season, has now made aston- ' ishing inroads into the field of formal attire," he declares. The studio de- ! signer has created a numher of these new washable party frocks for the feminine stars to wear in forth'com- | ing productions. j A blue and white flowered organdie ! worn by Tallulah Bankhead should ati tract attention, according to Banton. I This frock magically becomes sophisti- ' cated with tlie addition of a lei of many-coloured flowers that follows the i deep decolletage. | rhe ingenue effect is achieyed in a ! tub frock of pink, blue, yellow, laveni der and green plaid linen displayed by j Carole Lomhard. This costume shows mere wisps of straps that cross at the I back, suspender fashion, and a very | full skirt that sweeps the floor. | Other Banton creations worn by the stars include a green and white candyi striped organdie with a black satin j sash, a white pique with dark blue 1 accessories, and a pink muslin dis- ' playing a trailing skirt and large puff sleeves. As a final touch to the enchanting effects of the cotton evening frock, Banton suggests the clever use of fresh flowers. Necklaces of white gardenias, buttercups, cornflowers, nasturtiums and daisies are some of , the variations adaptable to the new j modes. i
