. ' . Bec, Nov. 3, 12.15 p.m. Sydney, November 2. The report of the Royal Gommissionei', Mr. Justice Halse Rogers, who" enqu'ired into the granting of permits for greyhound racing and the licensiiig1 of fruit machines, was tahled in the Assembly to-night by the Premier, Mr. B. S. Stevens. The Commissioner found that money had passed in relation to both aetivities "hui he was unable to say dfefinitely, to whom. "Ifi regard to the granting of greyhound racing permits, he was driven to the conelusion that the wishes of Frederick Swindell were followed in almost every case and that Swindell was in close touch directly or indireetly, with some ' section of Cabinet. With regard to fruit machines, his Honour said that he had no doubt that Cabinet had sanctioned their installation knowing at the time that they constituted a breaeh of the law. In his introductory remarks, the Commissioner commerited npon the amount of "false swearing before the commission. The inquiry had revealed that the opinion was widely held that in order to get things done in politics, it was necessary to resort to hribery. There stood two takers of toll — Swindell, who took money for greyhound racing permits and Sellman, a Government officer holding an indeterminate position who weejk by weelc collected a percentage of thctakings of the holders of fruit machine licenses.
