A. AND P. ASSOCIATION
"KIA ORA."
Sir, — In your report of the recent meeting I was interested in a suggestion from Mr. T. H. Sloane, that a winter show be held in Auckland. Apparently this was ridiculed by some of those present. I am inclined to support the idea of exhibiting outside Rotorua. Having a winter show here is like having an exhibition in Rotorua of pictures and photos of the geysers and other thermal sights. The past experience is that winter shows here have proved costly and I doubt if any measure of benefit consistent with the expense has been obtained. The shows have been held when the town has praetically no visitors and is patronised solely by local people who are already aware of the wonderful crops grown in the district. What is required is to let the people outside Rotorua know what great results have been obtained from the pumice lands in this district. Certainly building a large hall will not do this. I would suggest that a full time secretary be appointed whose chief duty would be to see that Rotorua was properly represented at shows outside of Rotorua.' We have the goods so why not advertise them. Another suggestion is that the association consider the matter of a summer show. This might be held in February when the town has usually a large number of visitors. The expense of buildings would be very small, as no doubt Arawa Park would be available. Now that there are a good number of hunter s in the district the ring events would be very interestinff. — I am. etc.
