SALE OF STOCK REMEDIES

The opinion that the exploitation of farmers hy oertain settlers of stock remedies was still a matter of fact was expressed hy Mr. C. W. Pierson, of Te Aroha, in speaking to the Waikato sub-provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers Union recently. He illustrated his contention by showing how easily iodine could be diluted wtih water. As a remedy for this practice, he suggested that regulatioris governing the sale of stock remedies should be drawn up and in this direction the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand would be pleased to co-operate. By this means the constituents of the remedies would have to he declared. The Farmers Union should take the matter up and appoint an advisory committe'e to draw up regulations and enforce them. Representations to the Government in this matter had failed, and the Farmers Union should take steps for itself. Early next year the Pharmacy Board will hold a conf'erence in Wellington, and would .welcome a delegate from the Farmers' Union. A motion that the Dominion executive should he urged to take up the matter with the Pharmacy Board with a vi'ew to obtaining legislation compelling makers of stock remedies to show the main ingredients was carried.
