CARNIVAL WEEK
PROGRAMME FOR THIS YEAR ADOPTED BY COUNCIL EXTRA MUSIC The Publicity and Amusement Committee of the Rotorua Borough Council on Wednesday evening submitted the following programme for carnival week: — Christmas night, combined band and Maori Choir in Town Square; Boxing Night, swimming carnival in Blue Bath, band in attendance; Tues- ! day, 27, combined band concert in Town Square; Wednesday, 28, fancy dress ball; Thursday, 29, grand Maori concert and hangi; Friday, 30, programmes by the bands, one in ihe Town Square and one at the Blue Bath; New Year's Eve, usual fancy dress competitions, children's afternoon and motor vehicle procession, etc. It was recommended that the decorated motor vehicle events and the procession be held at three o'clock on the afternoon of New Year's Eve and the judging take place at that time, and that the procession be repeated as usual in the evening. It was also suggested that a letter be sent to the Retail Traders' Association inviting their assistance in restricting, or prohibiting the sale of fireworks on New Year's Eve.
It was iound m the past that irresponsible individuals purchase fireworks and use them indiscriminately in the streets. It was recommended that the usual booklet be prep'ared and distributedfree of cost. A recommendation was also made that a suitable person be engaged for the week before Christmas and New Year to assist in organising the various events; the remuneration for the period to be £5. The Auckland Waterside Workers' Band has arranged to attend. The report and recommendations were adopted without discussion.
