ROTORUA BOROUGH
- COUNCIL MEETS CORRESPONDENCE & ROUTINE BUSINESS DEALT WITH. RATEPAYERS' REQUESTS. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, presided at the ordinary meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, held on Wednesday night, when the following .routine business was transacted: — (The secretary of the Rotorua Fire Board advised that the board had no objection to the proposal that the area reserved for the Fire Board on Amohau Street should be moved to the east a distance of approximately 80 feet. The Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, wrote with reference to the sightseeing services and advised that the question of amending this - --condition will be considered by the No. 3 Licensing Authority at an early date, when it is hoped that the present difficulties will be removed. The Director of the Workers' Educational Association asked the council to give favourable consideration to an appeal for funds by their association. — On the motion of Cr. E. T. Johnson it was decided that the council could not see its way clear to - making any donation. The ' Conciliation Commissioner, Auckland,' wrote notifying that the council had been cited as respondent in an industrial Uispute between the employers and the Auckland Drivers' Union. — It was decided to refer the matter to the finance committee with power to act. Mr. R. Potter, instructed by Mr. H. C. Frandi, wrote asking what attitude the council intended adopting with respect to th'e claim by Mr. Frandi for compensation amounting to £10, plus medical expenses £1, as a result of an accident he suffered whilst in the employ of the council on April 14 last. On the motion of Cr. A. Smith, Mr. Potter is to be informed that the council cannot accept any responsibility. Mr. R. Winger appliect for a refund of the amount of £1 18s 3d, heavy traffic fees paid' on September 23, this vehicle having been previously registered in Taumarunui unknown to the person doing-the registration here. — The refund will be made on the certification of the town clerk that the position has been correctly stated. The Under-Secretary Internal Affairs Department wrote with reference to part Section 26A recently vested in the council for cemetery purP'oses and advised that in view of the circumstances it appeared that this poi'tion of the area should be included within the borough boundary. — The legal and finance committee will further investigate the position. Mr. C. J. Tuck auvised that owing to recent prosecutions it was imperative that Mrs. Tuck should hold a license as well as himself. He asked whether two could hold a license for one shop or if he could transfer his license to Mrs. Tuck, who did most of the business. — The question was referred to the general committee. Building permits to the value of £605 were issued for the last three weeks.
