TOO SECRET

COUNCIL WANT INFORMATION REGARDING PROPOSED PROSECUTIONS NAMES TO .BE SUPPLIED The announcement made by tfie general committee that it hacl decided to proseeute a motor firm for breaches of the Transport Licensing Act caused some difference of. opinion at the meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council last night. • - Cr. G. Urquhart protesfed ffiat the hare statement that a prosecxitiOn had been instituted Was not sufficient Crs. should know what they were doing. As it was, they were asfied to act in the dark. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) pointed out that the council had autfiorised - the committee to undertake these prosecutions. If cthe task were left to the council as a whole it would mean a meeting every week. 'It would, however, be qxxite easy to leave . all reference to prosecutions out of the reports. Cr. A. Smith questioned whetfier it had been wise to delegate these powers to a committee. The eouncillors as a whole should know what was heing done. Councillors should have further informatlon without having to ask for it. ' • • The Mayor pointed out that i$ was quite competent for the council to say what should be done. Finally, after a good deal of cross discussion, a resolution hy Cr, - ASmith that the names of persons fo be prosecuted he sxxpplied, Was carried. '
