ROTORUA R.S.A. ASKS THE BOROUGH COUNCIL FOR SUBSIDY At the meeting. of the Rotorua I ough Couneil last night a letter i received from the Rotorua hrancl the Returned Soldiers' Associat asking if the couneil would subsii worlc for returned soldiers to the tent of £15. per quarter, onlyffli bers of the association to he employ Cr. E. T. Johnson, while approd of the proposal, feared that it? more th'an the couneil could afforl Cr. L. J. Bayfeild thought that i couneil wonld get work done fori cost and the returned soldiers desa ed some consideration. The subs should he granted. Cr. A. Smith moved that the) quest he approved. The Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) a there were two diffienlties. (1) | provision of the eouncil's portion the expense when the Works Conffl tee would want every penny toi ance its budget. (2) That the canS funds should benefit all returned s diers and not only members of! association. Cr. Bayfeild seconded the motion. Cr. O. H. Coleman said he woi like to see the matter referred toi finance committee. It was advisaj to know how the money was to found and how long the contributi was to continue. He moved, as amendment, that the matter he i ferred to the finance committee. Cr. H. Tai Mitchell seconded and! amendment was declared earried.
