PRIESTS PROTEST OBJECT TO ADMISSION INTO BENARES TEMPLES APPEAL MADE TO GANDHI

Rec. Oct. 25, 7.30 p.m. Calcutta, October 25. Benares, which is regarded as the religious capital of Hinduism, the great eetttre of orthodox pilgrimages, has revolted against Gandhi's victory regarding the admission of untouchables into temples, and the priests are seekittg protection against religious interferenee under Queen Vietoria's Procfamation of 1858. A movement is already on foot to endeavour tp persuade Gandhi. to consent to the restoration of easte restrietions, but it is unlikely that the Congress leaders will be agreeable.
