FOUR MEN CHARGED IJNDER AMENDED CRIMES ACT

Rec. Oct. 24, 10.20 p.m. Sydney, October 24. The first prosecutions under the amended Federal Crimes Act dealing with Communism, were launched against four men who were charged with soliciting contributions to an alleged illegal organisation, the Communist Party in Australia. The defendants are: Francis Devanny, Rohert Grey, Samuel Frew and Joseph RyaP. The charge, which occupied three hours reading, arises out of an appeal for funds through the Communist organ, the Workers' Weekly. The hearing was adjourned.
