PARTY OF SOLDIERS
Rec. Oct. 24, 11 p.m. Kobe, Qctoher 24. It is reported that Captain Kawahito and a party of Japanese soldiers visited the handits in their lair and bargained for the release of Mrs. M. Pawley and Mr. F. Corkran, who were bound fast in a small heavily guarded hut. It is stated that the Japanese Patriotic Society conducted negotiations, having established confidence with the natives. It is believed that the ransom amounted to 100,000 dollars, but the subject is tabooed by the Japanese press for the sake of the nation's prestige. °
