A. & P. BUILDING

General satisfaction will be felt at the decision of the Rotorua A & P Assn. to reconsider its decision with regard to the erection of a show building. The question has yet to be discussed by the members assembled at the annual meeting but -the way has been cleared by rescinding the resolution passed in February to defer building and invest the funds raised by the art union for a period of six months. It seems fairly evident from the tone of the meeting on Friday evening that the majority of the members were not opposed to the provision of housing accommodation for the show, but they hestitated to commit the association to expenditure upon an elaborate building programme. By keeping the cost of construction within the limit of £3000 the association should be able to quite adequately house the show and yet retain a substantial reserve for efficient administration. The complaints made by speakers at the special meeting that support was not generously given by the townpeople to the show may, to a certain extent be justified, but on the other hand it must be recognised that the Jack of proper accommodation has made it impossible to provide the attractions which can be relied upon to encourage public attendances. If the show is to fulfil its purpose and become a gen-

ume benefit to the district it must be popularised. The agricultural products are undoubtedly available to make a very fine exhibition, but the sidelines ■aiHBHM

essential to public enjoyment have been missing in the past. With a new building it should be possible to overcome this mistake in the future and make the show not only a usef ul advertisement for the district, but also a social feature which the public will look forward to with enjoyment. It remains to be seen if the annual meeting will realise the wisdom of adopting this change in policy.
