BAND RECITAL
APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE AT MAJESTIC LAST EVENING A small but appreciative audience attended the Majestic Theatre last I evening- when a recital was given by | the Rotoi-ua Municipal Band in aid I of the band uniform fund. It was unfortunate that the heavy rain restricted the attendance as the selections played by the band and the items given by the supporting artists were of exceptional merit and prompted rounds of applause from those present. As the opening item the band played a stirring march, "Kitchener's Own," followed by an overture, "La Flandre," which was very well rendered. Other items given by the band were: — "Pirates of Penzance," "A Night in Switzerland," excellent tone and balance being demonstrated in each. The rendering of "A Military Church Parade" left nothing to he desired, and as a deseriptive fantasia was very well handled. The vocal and instrumental portion of the programme also received well-earned appreciation and encores were demanded of each item. In the unavoidable absence of Mrs. Pyman, Mrs. Jones made a capable accompanist. The complete programme was as follows: — March, "Kitchener's Own," and overture, "La Flandre," the Band; song, Miss Kronfeld; selection, "Pirates of' Penzance," the band; song, Mrs. Bonnington; Morceau, "A Night in Switzerland," the Band; songs, Mr. Howard; pqt popri, "A Musical Switch," the Band; cello solo Mr. Coney; deseriptive fantasia, "A Military Church Parade," march, "Voice of the Guns," the Band.
