THE BIG GAMBLE
DRAMATIC SITUATIONS ' IN A UNIVERSAL PICTURE. Those who would escape from the routine and commonplace for an hour and a half o'f amazir.g, sometimes weird, adventure in the shadow of death can do so by eeeing Bill Boyd in "The Big Gambl which opens > at the Grand Theatre on Monday. j j The story deals with a young fellow j ; who sells his life for an insurance J policy which will square his debts ' when he is gone and leave a big pro- ! ! fit for the sinister individual into j , whose power he has fallen. The man ! : who is to profit from the deal proi tects his interests by marrying what ' | is supposed to be a live corpse to an- j j other of his victims — a girl who has j j put herself into his hands to save her ' ! brother. | Even a man who is supposed to be dead finds that he is human,- and before he realises it",' he is in love with his beautiful young wife. With some- : thing to live for, he revolts against the grisly compact and his efforts to escape the trap provide a dramatie confiict as exciting as any ever brought to the screen. ! Boyd comes into his own as an ac- , tor in this production. He has plenty : to do and does it perfectly. His peri formance is virile, sincere and thoroughly convincing. He deserves f more roles such as this and undouht- i edly will get them.
