KEDUCTIQN OF FIJI DUTY RAISES STORM IN QUEENSLAND Sydney, .October 19. Ixxdignatioxx against the reduction of the dixty on Fiji bananas has reached fever heat in nox'tlxern New South Wales and Queensland. Protests have been made by growers and marketing organisations to the Federal and the State Parliaments. The Prixne Minister, Mr. J. A. ' Lyons, sent a telegx'am to the Prexnier of Queensland, Mx*. Forgan Snxitlx, deploring the extravagant terms of his protest and emphasising that the lowering of the duty will not jeopai'dise the iocal banana trade as Fiji importations are being restrieted to 40,000 centals a year, which is comparatively insignificant compaied with the Australian production of over 2,250,000 bushels a year.
