Opening on Labour Day Final details for the official opening of the activities of the Motutara Golf Club were considereu at a meeting of the committee on Wednesday evening. The club will be opened on Monday next, Labour Day, at 11 a.'m. by Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., and official invitations to he present are being sent to the Mayor, the Town Clerk and to the president and secretary of the Rotorua Golf Club. At the conclusion of the opening addresses, competition matches will be held and will occupy the whole day. In order that no delay shall be caused in the completion of the competitions the club will provide tea, and invite visitors to picnic on the ground, bringing their own baskets.

Women's Club Competition A guessing competition run at the recent danee eondueted by the Rotorua Women's Club was won by Miss Weelces, 1 (No. 37), .and Mrs. C. Goodger, 2 (No. 64). The prizes were two cushions. Concert For Band Final arrangements have been completed for the sacred concert to be held in the Majestic Theatre next .Sunday evening. Tickets are going ofr freely and there is every indication that a crowded house will be the result. The public of Rotorua will again be afforded an opportunity of hearing the municipal band in seleet

numbers, whicli are included in the programme. Attractive vocal items have been provided and the band management have made every effort to make the programme even better than its usual standard of concerts g'iven in the past. The object of the concert is to raise funds for new uniforms, which are badly needed, as the present issue falls far short of the number of members in the band, and quite a number is without uniforms. Sporting Press Gallery An institution which is practically unknown amongst the public is the Sporting Press Gallery though it ful-

fils a. very definite niche in all racing and trotting matters. It is us- ' ual at the spring meeting of the Avondale Trotting Club to elect the officers for the ensuing- year and on Monday, Mr. W. M'orton was re-elqcted president for the tenth year in succession. Mr. R. Algoe (Auckland "Star") was reelected hon secretary, and Mr. P. McManemin (N.Z. Ilerald) treasurer. Appreciation of the work of the officers during the year was expressed by Mr. E. Sutherland (city papers) and Messrs. E. Prendergast and L. Crawford-Watson (country members). The Gallery has a fund and from time to time donations -are. made to deserving objects.
