GEOLOGICAL SURVEY IN POVERTY BAY s s AREA

— By Telegrapli — Copy.rlghtl.

Gisborne, Tuesday. A preliminary survey of the geological features of Poverty Bay, East Coast and Wairoa districts has been carried out by the. party of geologists, which is headed by Dr. Jablonski, which is iuvestigating the- oil possibilities of the area on behalf of the Vaccum Oil , Proprietary. The party is now turhing its attention to a detailed investigation of specific localities within the area with a view to determbiing whether the strafigraphy is such as to hold. out hope of oil being accumulated under the earth's surface in eircumstances which may justify the company instituting drill"ing operations. . - The task of the geological party is reeognised as an onerous one, as on the recommendations made to the principal company in the present investigation may depend developments which will affect the future of the Poverty Bay distriet. It is assured that the conelusions reached by Dr. Jablonski and his eolleagues will not be the product of any superficial examination of the countryside.
