MILITARY CALLED OUT TO QUELL TROUBLE AT KINGSTON

Rec. Oct. 18, 7.55 p.m. Kingston, Ontario, Oct. 17. The military were called out to aid the guard in quelling more than 800 convicts in the most serious riots in the history of the Portsmouth penitentiary here to-day. Twelve convicts were injured. The military were withdrawn after two hours. A demand for cigarette papers and longer hours of recreation precipitated the outbreak.
