MOKORUA CLUB HOLDS OPEN TOURNAMENT FOR MEN The Mokorua club is holding an open tournament for men. The qualifying and first rounds were played on Sunday under ideal weather conditions, and the hill links and greens generally were in first class condition. The play was pleasant and many good cards were returned. .The following players qualified in the A Grade open. Powdrell and Baker 76, Peebles and Innes 77; King 79, Napier and Mahoney 80; Wardlaw, Suckling and Timbs 81; Brebner and Sharkey 83, Reid, Sloane and Appleby 85. The results of the first round were: Powdrell beat Wardlaw, 3 and 2. Mahoney beat Baker, 4 and 2. Napier beat Peebles, 1 up. Suckling beat Appleby, 5 and 4. Timbs beat Sloane, 1 up. Reid beat Brebner, 2 and 1. Beckett beat Sharkey, 5 and 4. In th'e B section the following qualified. C. Armstrong, Pitcaithley 85; S. Armstrong 86; Waugh 87; McDowell 88; Smedley 89; Rangi 91; McCracken 91. The results of the first round were. C. Armstrong beat McCracken, 1 up. Pitcaithley beat Rangi, 4 and 2. S. Armstrong beat Smedley, 2° and 1. Waugh beat McDonnell, 3 and 1. Pitcaithley holed out in , one at the Pit. He came to the conclusion afterwards that to choose a tournament day for the feat was rather an expensive item. The semi-finals and finals will be played next week-end.
