WAIROA RELIEF

DANCE AND CARD TOURNEY In response to an appeal from Wairoa for assistance, the Opotiki branr ch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held an evening of ■ flag 500 and dancing in the Lyric Hall on Thursday. The response to Wairoa's appeal was not only shown by the actual organising, but also by the whole-heart-ed support of the Opotiki people. There were seventeen tables of flag 500, the long supper hall being overcrowded with players. The winners were: — Mrs. Wilson Seott, Mrs. H. Ash, Mr. H. Skipper, Mr. P.* Smologan. Mr. A. E. Martin carried out the duti.es of M.C, for, the cards. The W.D.F.U. provided a delicious supper. Mr. J. Mannix and his Dixie boys supplied the music for the danc- , ing' which consisted mainly of , old 1 time numbers. The evening was a huge success and will enable a useful contribution to be forwarded.
