FIRST TRAMP
ENJOYABLE EXPEDITION BY ROTORUA PARTY Members of the recently formed Rotorua Tramping Club on Sunday, held their first offlcial tramp, the destination being Mt. Pukepoto, overxooking the Rotokawa lagoon. Unfortunately the day failed to break fine, but the unfriendly weather did not dampen the keenness and high hopes of the fifteen members who set out. The party covered the outward journey after some three hours walking, main roads being avoided wherever possible.. The weather was dull throughout the morning and during the ascent a Scotch mist obscured Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island, but the party determined to complete the trip and so pushed on to the top. A delightful and sheltered spot was selected for lunch and it was not long before the billies were boiling and a hearty lunch being enjoyed in approved tramping style. The return journey was made in bright sunshine, permitting of many beautiful views, and by way of variation the party walked home around the lake's edge. The outing concluded at 6 p.m. after an extremely enjoyable. and successful day.
