MAN SOAKED CLOTHES IN BENZINE AND LIT MATCH New Plymouth, Monday. ! Lawrence Vincent Payne was fatalI ly hurned some months ago and today his widow unsuccessfully claimed £817 compensation in the Arbitration Court from her late husband's employers, the Sash and Door Factory Coy. Payne was working with a truck at the mill. He spilled oil on his clothes, washed them with benzine, put thern on again, struck a match to light a cigarette and his clothes ignited. Payne jumpad into a water race but he was severely burned and died in hospital. Mr. Justice Frazer held that the accident was caused through Payne striking a match for his own purposes and not in the course of his employment.
