Te Aroha, Monday. Mr. A. H. Kimbell, Under-Seeretary of the Mines Department, accompani'ed by several local departmental officers conferred to-day with a large number of prospectors and others interested in gold mining in tha Te Aroha hills. The conference was for the purpose of clearing up misundarstandings with regard to the department's attitude towards an effort to hring about a revival of gold mining in the district. Mr. Kimbell undertook to have investigations made with a view to employing 30 or 40 men if warranted, and outlined tlre recommendation he was prepared to make, which gave the assistanee requircd. Mr. J. W. Smith, Mining Supervisor said there was a promising area on the south side of the mountain but the titles wero held for the best of this.
