SPARKLING COMEDY
"THE GUARD&MAN" AT THE MAJESTIC ON SATURDAY. EXCELLENT CASTS STARRING. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's screen version of Ferenc Molnar's sparkling cornedy, "The Guardsman," opens at the Majestic Theatre on Saturday. "The Guardsman" is a diverting tale of an actor who is insanely jealoUs of his wif'e. Thereupon he disguises himself as a dashing Russian guardsman and makes love to her, hoping that she will repulse his overtures and thns prove herself faithful. He is only too successful in his flirtation,' but when he upbraids his wif e for her iriconstancy, even threatening to kill her, she manages to turn the tahles on him very. ueatly. The stars of the picture are the New York stage celehrities who made a great sueeess of this play on the Broadway stage, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Needless .to say, the lines by Molnar, that distinguished Hungarian playwrigh't, are brilliant. They have a sbphisticated Continental flavour— approaching the daring, but never going bver the houndaries of good taste. , The stars are supported by an excellent cast, including Roland Young, Zasu Pitts, Maude Eburne and Herman Bihg. It is film cornedy at its finest— smart, sparkling, worldly and mature. The Lunts are a delectahle acquisxtion of the more inteliigent talking pictures.
