STOCK SALE
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company and Dalgety and Company, conducted a joint stock salo at the Whakatane saleyards to$ay. There was a large entry of cattle, but few buyers. Prices generally, were very poor. The best pen sold on account of Johnston Bros., Waingaro, 12 PolledAngus four-year-old steers, realised £4 5s. The cattle generally were in good eondition, but many lines were passed in. The prevailing prices offering for Hereford four- and five-year-old steers was around £3 10s, which was not acceptable to sellers. A large number of store cows were purchased by a Waikato buyer, prices ranging from 16s to £1 10s. Poorer lots were disposed of at 10s per head. Prices generally were disappointing and remarks around the ringside indicated that although feed was plentiful at present, buyers were cautious, anticipating a somewhat dry summer.
