The opening of the Rowing season will take place on Oct. 26, when the j trial fours will compete for the j Bergman trophy. Five or six crews j are expected to take part. A dance will be held in the evening. A chal- ; lenge is to be forwarded to Opotiki, i the holders of the King's Picture Cup j and the secretary was instructed to ! suggest Wednesday, November 16, as ! a suitable date for the race. The proposal to allow the High School teams to join the club has led to some difference of opinion, but as [ they will be using the skiffs mostly j on Saturday moxning, it was decided j that they be allowed to join the club, i the subscription for the year being ; set down at 7s 6d, less 2s 6d if paid '
by November 30. Crews for the opening day are as follow: — W. E. Brown (stroke), W. Beckett, R. Hansen, S. Hollis; J. Pickworth (stroke), J. Gibberd, R. Fountain and another; C. Bush (stroke), N. Bracken, Thorburn and another; S. Marshall (stroke), S. Dent, J. Buller, F. R. Brown; S. U. Beckett (stroke), J. Burgess, J. Connolly, B. Roberts; L. Graee (stroke), Taylor, Delahunty, Staiger; B. Hooper, A. Kilgour, G. Henry, E. Chamberlain. Golf The following team from the Whakatane Golf Club will visit Tauranga this week-end: — York, Napier, Simmonds, Powdrell, Reynolds, E. R. Bridger, Steel, Mahoney, J. G. McCulloch, A. E. McCulloch, W. M. Clark, Allan, Innes, Beckett, Luxton, Spence Baker, Pirini, A. Bridger, Suckling.
