Timaru, Thursday. Beautiful weather favoured th'e opening of the New Zealand women's golf championship on the Highfield links this morning-. The inter-Island match was won hy the North' Island, one up, hy 4i games to 31. The following were the seores. — • Miss B. Gaisford (Marton) heat Miss O. Kay (Otago), two and one. Mrs. H. Collinson (Manawatu) heat Mrs. ti. Dodgshun (Otago), 4 and 3. Miss Barnes-Graham (Poverty Bay) heat Miss B. Rutherford (Hawarden). 6 and 5. Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton) beat Mrs. McCarthy (Otago), 6 and 5. Miss M. Stevens (Pupuke) lost to Miss M. Beadel (Christchurch). Miss S. Watson (Manawatu) and Mrs. J. C. Templer (Waimate), all square. Mrs. Forman (Miramar) lost to Miss F. Pringle (Timaru), 5 and' 3. Miss E. M. Upton (Auckland) lost to Miss M. Tizard (Timaru), 1 down.
