Dunedin, Tuesday. Police Constable John Francis Percival Simpson, single, aged 28 years, was found dead at th'e police barracks last night, shot tlirough the month. The coroner's verdict was that death was due to a bullet wound, selfinfiicted. The evidence showed that deceased was a capable, trustworthy, and popular officer, whose usuai cheeriness was observed even late yesterday afternoon. In December deceased, while arresting a man, was struck on. the head with a bottle, bnt the medical evidence scouted the idea of mental injury. The coroner commented oii the suicide as tragie and inexplicable. ( Deceased was a native of England, and had no known relatives in New Zealand.
