London, Oct. 3. Anthony Saint George (36), described as the "most remarkable criminal of the present generation," was sentenced to five years' penal servitude for burglaries, involving £3000. Saint George, who is highly-edueat-ed and pleasant mannered, became a sergeant-major during the war and was sent to America to train troops. His story is like that of a detective thriller. , He first became a menace by burgling large country houses in 1923. He had a well-equipped houseboat at Guildford, where he entertained lavishly during the daytime, his guests including a party of poliee offiCers and their wives. He was the life of every gay party ahoard. Saint George had a motor-car and always possessed plenty of money. The police, in the meantime, were perlexed by a whole series of burglaries in the n.eighbourhood, till ultimately a constable traced a hicyele trade from a house which ha'd been rohbed, to the houseboat. Saint George could scale house walls like a monkey and had a strange power over dogs. None evef barked at him and tlie most f ef ocious came crawling to his feet. "You must be a bold and courageous man, because you have burgled through the country alone, which requires nerve and skill," said the judge when passirig sentence.
