NEW PORTABLE RECEIVER

WIRELESS SET FOR POLICE USE. A new kind of p-ortable wireless receiving set for police work has been invented by Constahle Frank Thistlethwaite, a young member of the Bradford (England) force, who was recently congratulated hy Major-Gene-ral Sir L. W. Atcherley, Inspector of Constabulary. "It is a revolutionary patent of which great things are expected," said the Chief Constahle of Bradford, Mr. Thomas Rawson, and his opinion was endorsed hy other chief constables who had been asked to see it tested on motor-cycles and sidecars. The set occupies little spaoe, and has an aerial only two f eet long. The ealling signal is the lighting of a small red bulb in front of the cyclist, who then nuts on headphones to receive messages. During tests, in which a number of messages were received most successfully, the headphones acted so efficiently that they could be used as loudspeakers.
