HIGH SCHOOL
ANNUAL STEEPLECHASE ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON Weather permitting, the Rotorua High School will hold its annual steeplechase events on Wednesday afternoon next, commencing at 2 o'clock. The school is again indebted to property owners for permission to use the course. The senior race commences and ends at Tihiotanga farm, in Malfroy Road West. The route follows the Utuhina Stream via Raethel's property, from which a hill climb leads to Mr. Hunt's farm. The home run gain crosses the Waiariki Land Joard's pioperty. The intermediate .vent is run simultaneously over the >:ame track, while the junior course, for boys under 14, avoids the hill, and is about two and a-half miles in length. Approximately 150 boys have entered for these events, and training is now being finalised. A cordial invitation to be present is extended to parents, ex-pupils, and friends. The record for the senior course is held by R. T. Dawson, who in 1929 registered the surprisingly good time of 25 minutes 13 3-5 seconds. The athletic sports will be held on Saturday afternoon next in the case of the girls, whilst the boys' sports will follow on Wednesday, October 12. During the girls' sports, the usual contests for ex-pupils will be held. These comprise both championship and handicap races for old boys, and ... handicap event for old girls. Past uid present pupils will also meet in emy events.
