TENNIS SEASON

ROTORUA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING INDICATES GOOD SEASON AHEAD SUBSCRIPTIONS REDUCED There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of. the Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club held in the Citizens' Club on Thursday evening. The president, Mr. W. A. McLean, presided. The annual report stated that the club had secured the use of an extra court from the Tourist Department, and would thus have a minimum of four courts in action throughout the season. The club had become affiliated to the Bay of Plenty Lawn Tennis Association and took part in the interclub matches. The balance sheet disclosed that the usual subscription had been maintained and the year's working showed a small nett profit. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron, Dr. S. H. Hay; president, Mr. Norman Smith; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. G. Holland, M. H. Hampson, R. Kirk; captain, Mr. E. G. Guy; vice-captain, Mr. J. T. Cunningham; secretary, Mr. A. J. Harron; assistant-secretary, Mr. I. A. Selby; hon. auditor, Mr. J. T. Cunningham; delegates to Bay of Plenty SubAssociation, Dr. Hay, Messrs. G. McDowell, E. G. Guy, and A. J. Harron; ladies' committee, Mesdames Johnston, Guy, Hall and Miss Dannefaerd; men's committee, Messrs. H. C. Smith, E. Bleasel, W. Smith, and E. C. North. A proposal to reduce the annual subscription by 2s 6d created considerable discussion, some members being of the opinion that the club should provide balls for each court each Saturday and lceep the subscription at the old rate.

The reduction, however, was approved by a substantial majority. ) It was recommended to the management committee that the club pay half of the travelling expenses of the teams taking part in the Bay of Plenty matches during the coming season. In view of the fact that the Tourist Department refused the club's application for a reduction of court rent, it was resolved to ask the department to throw the courts open for Sunday play without extra charge. Several new members were elected and the indications point to a successful season. The date for the official opening of the courts will be decided by the executive and announced later.
