POLICE SATISFIED
INQUIRY INTO ISLAND DEA1TI DISPROYES THEORY OF MURDER. SUSPECTS DISCHARGED. Sydney, Saturday. Satisfied that William Thomas Appleton, whose skeleton v/as found on an islancl in the Peel River, Tamworth, was not .murdered, Detaetive-Sergeant McRae has returned to Sydney. During extensive inquiries during which one man was held on a vagrancy charge and then releasisd, several men were interviewed, but finally cleared of any suspicion. Appleton's widow believes that her husband, who was a poor swimmer, accid'entally fell into the river and was drowned. He disappeared after tea on June 17 of last year, and was seen abont 8 o'clock walking toward the Peel River. The skeleton is now in the city morgue.
