MALE FASHIONS
BEARDS AND SNUFF '• f • signs of revival of old customs eviident in sydney. OTHER NEW STYLES. Sydney, Saturday. Will beards roam Sydney streets once more? They may, if other fashions of past days are revived. If some city window displays are any indication of what man is going to wear this summer, it may not be long hefone the "dandy" will he the man with a large moustaehe and "side levers," plus straw hat, high st^rched collar, spotted , tie, roped shoulders, lace-up hoots and uncreased trousers. He may even take snuff ! "Let one man . adopt ; any one or all of the old-new styles," said a men's clothier, "and the style becomes the fashion. Rememher the dawn of Oxford bags?" They remain to-day. And what are these new-old fashions? Well, here are the first few "f eelers" : — The return of the straw hat. Reversion to "roped" shoulders in tailored suits — that queer little ridge where sleeves join the hody of the coat. Gaily-coloured silk ties — not striped varieties, but something in spots waves, flowers. A few firms are gingerly testing the popular fancy for the return of the lace-up boot. Samples are getting front positions in several windows — with an odd pair of "biittonups"! One shop is . displayiing colourecl shirts with starched cuffs, and one or two straight, single-fold starched collars are lying on the floor nearky. And here are two mone hints of an inclination to look backwards. Tobacconists report a growing fancy for plug tobacco, and pipes with coloured amber stems. And last year one tohacconist sold more snuff than in any two years since the outbreak of the war.
