Alexandria, Sept. 29. After a fierce fight, in which dynamite and bombs were used, the coastguards near Burollos captured a smugglers' craft, containing hashish valued at £15,000. The consignee, Ahoul Ela, a leading drug smuggler, on learning of the loss soaked his clothes with paraffin, ignited them and burned to death. Hashish is a narcotic preparation made from hemp in the Orient. It may consist of the tops, leaves, etc. of the plant or some extract of the same of a resinous e-xudation. It has long been used in the East for its intoxicating effect when chewed " or smoked. Its effects are very harmf ul and the restrlctions on its use are exceedingly drastic.
