NAPIER FARK RACES MANY AVONDALE ENTRIES SEEN OUT ON SATURDAY. CHANCES OF SHREWD IN l?xM.
(Notes by
* There is a certain amount of interest in the running* off of the Napier Parlc spring meeting on Saturday, in view of the fact that several New Zealand Cup candidates are making their appearance in the Taradale j Highweight and that many of the | Avondale entries are also competing at the Shaky Town. In the Trial Handicap the field is fairly scattered and those who remember Gold Ruler's running at Avondale J last year may elect him. On the . other hand Grumpy is not bad nor are High Grader, Bothwell and Kahunoke. It may end: — Gold Ruler Grumpy High Grader from — TRIAL HANDICAP of £60; 6 fui*longs. Bothwell, Gold Ruler 8.9, Grumpy 8.7, Aesculus 8.5, Kahunoke, High •Grader 8.2, Admatha, Prince Umberto, Outward Bound, Cape Fair, Queens Diadem, Gold Pebble, Cuddl'e, Tiger Gain 8.0. S[S * * Jayson, on his Wellington running, should make a real race of it with Manuiri in the Greenmeadows Hack Hurdles and further down the list are Manifesto, Ex Dono and Kimbo, the lastnamed having won a couple in Hunt meetings. It looks like. — Jayson Manuiri Kimbo from — GREENMEADOWS HACK HLRDLE of £85; li miles. Jayson, Manuiri 10.10, ' Manifesto 9.6, Bird Call, Miss Hastings, Ex Dono, Puketi, Chesham, Kimbo 9.0. * * * * The Park Stakes of li miles sees Hunting Cry out again and the dual Railway winner may need a bit of a gallop to fit him for summer meetings. Despite his 9.7, he might go well, for he runs well fresh. Chopin has recent winning form, but Teller, after his Wanganui wins, is sure to be' supported. Then there is Atholspear, who might improve with a wellbred one in Golden Pennant, a full sister to Nancy Lce as well. The best read: — Teller Chopjn Atholspear from — PARK STAKES HANDICAP of £115; limil'es. Hunting Cry 9.7, Chopin 8.11, Teller 8.9, Atholsp'ear 8.5, Vitaphone, Court Lady, Autumn Dawn, Golden Pennant 7.0. * !!*. * There are some fair hacks in the Ahuriri Six, with Speed at the top of the handicap. She is a good one. Princess Bell was useful last season, and Sir Pombal is well enough bred for anything in the race I'osy, by that good sort, Chief Ruler — 'Rosellate, is from the ICemball stable and may take out. Others not bad are Grand Lahu, Kinross and Joystick. The tote may show: — Speed Sir Pombal Posy from — AHURIRI HACK HANDICAP of £70; 6 furlongs. Speed 8.3, Courtyard 8.2, Sir Pombal, Sabatini 7.8, Princess Bell, Posy, 7.5, Lady Ronald, Kinross, Grand Lahu 7.2, Joy Stick 7.0. The Taradale Highweight sees the consistent Chancery mare Shrowd en~ gageu. Last year she ran 24 races for 2 wins, 6 seconds and 5 thirds, whilst she was fourth on three occasionsj -all over distances of ground. She will be hard. Great Charter is brilliant but according to report is not quite ready, and Head Serang* appeals i more;Courageous is a good average sort with plenty of early toe, whilst | of the others Fondle, Barracouta and j Rory Mor may have chances. Favour- ! itism may devolve upon: — Shrewd Head Serang Fondle from — • TARADALE IIIGII-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of £80; 1 mile. Great Charter 9.12, Shrewd, Head Serang 9.5, Gold Trail 9.3, Courageous 8.10, Rory Mor, Fondle, Barracouta, Autumn Dawn, Bothwell 8.7. Anything might win the County Handicap, especially in view of the most peeuliar running of Ben Hur a,t Wanganui. He has topweight here and probably will finish down the course. He should, on form, be favourite. Swift and Sure is a handy sort, with a nice weight, and High Grader is in the hack six earlier. The others have not much to recommend them. The tote will be worth watching and so will: — Ben Hui* Swil't and Sure Kahunoke from — • COUNTY HACK HANDICAP of £75; 7 furlongs. Ben Hur 9.0, Lady Spy 8.2,' Swift and Sure, Frecze 8.0, Gay Lass, Nightspeaker, Kahunoke 7.9, High' Grader, Chock Say, Strome, Bradman, Golden Pennant 7.7. :|c There are just seven in the babies' four furlong* flutter and on track work as shown the following should run well : — Quietly Lady Nan Raiphyllis from — PRINCE OF WALES STAKES of £70 for two-year-olds; colts and geldings 8.5 fillies 8.0. Four furlongs. Raiphyllis, Hint, Fintry, Gipsy Love, Quietly, Silver Beau, Lady Nan.
