PRICES FIRM WITH EWES IN IMPROVED DEMAND BEEF PRICES BRISKER

Hamilton, Wednesday. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report: At Frankton sale yesterday we had a heavy yarding of all classes of sheep. The market for wethers remained firm at late rates, but a slightly smaller entry of ewes met with a 'better reception and showed, an improvement on last week's quotations. Hoggets were again yarded in good numbers, and remained firm. Spring lambs also came forward in larger numbers, the market showing an improvement. Beef : — A heavy yarding of ox beef containing better quality cattle than previously, for which the market improved, 15s per head for prime quality, whilst second quality also showed an improvement. An average yarding of cow and heifer beef also showed a decided increase in value. An average yarding of fat and store pigs with value for fats remaining very firm at last week's rates, while stores and weaners improved. Quotations : — Prime fat wethers, 15s to 15s 2d; medium, 13s 6d to 14s 3d; shorn, 12s to 12s 2d; light, 11s 4d to 12s 6d; heavy fat hoggets, 12s to 12s 8d; light, 10s 2d to 11s; fat maiden ewes, 12s; heavy fat ewes, 9s to 9s 6d; light 7s to 8s 3d; heavy spring lambs, 13s 9d to 14s 9d; light, 11s 9d to 12s 6d; runners, £2 10s to £2 19s; prime fat steers, £8 15s to £9 2s 6d; medium, £7 15s to £8 2s; light, £6 2s 6d to £7 3s; forward conditioned, £4 12s to £5 17s; prime fat heifers, £6 2s to £6 10s; light, £5 11s to £5 16s; medium fat cows, £5 ls to £5 10s; light, £4 2s 6d to £4 12s; lcillable, £3 3s to £3 15s; store cows, 25s to 30s; sound young cows and heifers, 25s to 31s; Jersey yearling heifers, £2 to £2 5s; choppers, 28s to 39s; heavy baconers, £2 5s to £2 9s; medium, 38s to £2 4s; heavy porkers, 31s to 33s; medium, 28s to 30s; stores, 20s to 25s 6d; slips, 14s to 19s; weaners, 11s to 16s; sows, due to farrow, 27s to 37s.
