Wellington, Tuesday. Hon. C. E. Macmillan states that the Government is taking immediate steps to alleviate distress causad by the earthquake at Wairoa. Cabinet has agreed to an expendi-tui-e of £950 for the lepaif Of .the pipeline, etc. It has been decided to proceed immediately with the ereetiori of a pontoon bridge across the river at -a cost estimated at £500. Use is to he made of 40-gallon oil drutns, of which there are quite a numher out towatds Waikareriioana.
