DIRECTORS DECIDE TO DO THE LABOUR THEMSELVES | 1
-By Telogcaph — Copyright)
Whangarei, Monday. Another serious phase has occurred in connection with th,e Waro Co-opera-tive colliery at Hikurangi, miners and trucksrs refusing to hew coal for the puyp.ose of keeping the boilers and pumps gping, because the board of directors decided to diverge from the ratjoning of work and pick their own men to carry on operations this week. The decision was due to insufficient coal being raised under the rationing scheme. The miners and truckers thereupon declared the mine "black," but the directors themselves will carry on the work till the end of this week, in order fo keep faith yuth the owners, Wilson's Cement Ccmpany, who undertook to pay the men to produce boiler coal for the fortnight terminating next Saturday. It is understood negotiations are proceeding in Auckland, which will definitely determine the fate of the mine.
