ART UNION PERMITS

NAVY LEAGUE CHAIRMAN SAYS STILL 124 WANTED. "The Cabinet Ministers who have control of art union permits do not seem favourably disposed to the Navy League," said the chairman of the club, Mr. J. J. Dougall, at a branch meeting of that body last week. The Canterhury branch has made an ap1plicatioh to hold an art union in common with two other branches. "I have been in communication with various Ministers and members of Parliament, and they do not want to grant a permit for the art union unless the smaller league branches come in," continued Mr. Dougall. "These small branches are not in need of monetary assistance, and I doubt if the profit on such a combined art union would be more than £1000. I believe that at present there are 124 art unicn applications under consideration, so I would not put much faith in our chances of getting a permit."
