ROTORUA ASSOCIATION

CRICKET SEASON ANNUAL REPORT RECORDS PAST SEASON'S SUCCESS. RECOMMENDATIONS SUBMITTED The annual report of the Rotorua Gricket Association for the 193-1-32 season, which is to be presented to the annual meeting of the association to be held on Monday evening, discloses the f act that, despite the reduetion in afFiiiation fees made at the eommencement of the season, the financial position is stronger than shown in the previous report. ;It is mentioned, however, that this position was made possible by the repairing of the mat then in use, and it is pointed out that a new mat will be necessary for the eoming season. The two-day system of games which was again followed during the season had resulted in a higher standard of play and proved that the previous oneday system would now prove hopelessly inadequate. In view of the shortness of tirne available last season for the completion of the association's programme of matches, the report recommends that an early start be made in the approaching season. Four representative games were played during the season, three being won by Rotorua on the first innings, two lost, and one drawn. The sub-committee set up to draft rules for a Williams Cup competition had completed their deliberations and a set of rules will be placed before the annual meeting for consideration. In extending thanks for the assistance which it had reeeived from supporters during the season, the report reeords the excellent work done by Mr. Ilesketh, head groundsman, Government grounds, and the Rotorua Morning Post for the services rendered in the repox-ting of matches and other functions. Tribute to the interest taken by eountry club delegates in the management of the association's affaix's is also made. The outgoing committee also recommends that the annual ball, which' was inaugurated at the end of the last sxasoxx and proved so successful should be retained, but appeals for greater interest in this fixture from the eountry elubs.
